|
When we were planning our wedding, it seemed that
we spent more time selecting the proper music than we did planning anything
else...thus, our special section for wedding music -- information, tips
and tricks, ideas, interesting "Did You Know?" fun facts, and links to
other Web sites for and about wedding music.
While we were listening to song selections, we
wrote down the lyrics to be make certain the songs would fit the wedding or
reception event just the way we wanted. As a result, we know have quite a
few pages of song lyrics for weddings and receptions which we share with you.
And when you're really stressed out from it all, check here
and our 100's of Jokes & Cartoons Section for
humor, jokes and cartoons just about weddings and marriage...and hopefully you can SMILE!!

The "Prelude:"
The Prelude is
the music played 20 to 30 minutes before your ceremony. Your music
selections will set the mood for your wedding, whether it be religious, elegant,
ethnic, or romantic. If your wedding is in a church, your music should be
appropriate to permit guests to pray, reflect or have light conversation.
Check with your officiant to see if your choices of music are acceptable.
The "Processional:" The
ceremony begins with the entrance of the bridal party. Normally the ushers lead the procession, followed by the bridesmaids, maid/matron of honor, the ring bearer, and then
the flower girl. The music selection should begin softly with the volume
increasing gradually until it's time for the bride's entrance. Since the
bride's entrance is the most important part of the processional, there should be
a noticeable increase in volume when it's time for her to enter.
The "Recessional:" It's
the end of the ceremony. The bride and groom kiss and are announced as man
and wife. They exit together, arm-in-arm, and are followed by the flower
girl and ring bearer, the maid/matron of honor and best man, then the ushers and
bridesmaids. This music should be upbeat and majestic.
The "Postlude:" The
Postlude music begins after the Recessional and should be played until all
guests have gone through the receiving line. This music should be joyful
and triumphant.

About 50 to 60 songs can be
played during a typical four-hour wedding reception. Your guests will be a
group of people of different ages and music interests. Do not choose
all the music for the reception. Give your DJ a list of songs you would
like to have played during your reception, but allow your guests to make
requests and allow your DJ to do his or her job in keeping the guests happy with the
music selections. Your DJ will know how to keep your guests motivated, dancing and having a good time.
It is what your DJ does for a living - let him/her do their job.
However, you will want
to select special songs for:
- Bride & Groom's First Dance (sorry, no
suggestions at this time)
- Father-Bride Dance/Father-Daughter Dance

What to expect from your DJ - and the
"usual" flow of a reception: Your
DJ...
- Will arrive at the reception hall at least an
hour prior to the start of your reception in order to set up.
- Will have a portable microphone for the toast
and the blessing.
- Will introduce the bridal party and bride and
groom as they enter the reception.
- Will announce the tables as they should get
in line (for buffet dinners.)
- Will play appropriate instrumental music
during dinner, suitable for background music while your guests dine and
carry on conversations.
- After dinner, your DJ will work with your
photographer for cutting of the cake and other special events such as the
Bouquet Toss, Garter Toss, etc.
- Will announce the first dance, the
father-daughter dance, the mother-son dance and other special dances such as
the money dance, etc.

A Little Bit of Humor...
A conductor was having a lot of trouble with one
drummer. He constantly gave this guy personal attention and much advice, but his performance simply didn't
improve. Finally, before the whole orchestra, he said, "When a musician just can't handle his instrument and
doesn't improve when given help, they take away the instrument, give him two sticks, and make him a drummer."
A stage whisper was heard from the percussion section, "And if he can't handle even that, they take away one
of his sticks and make him a conductor."
