Caribbean Dream

Ingredients:

  • 3/4-cup vanilla ice cream or low-fat ice milk
  • 3/4-cup pineapple sherbet
  • 3/4-cup tropical fruit salad, drained (Dole or DelMonte both carry this in canned fruit)
  • 1/4-cup frozen banana-orange juice concentrate
  • 1/8 to1/4-teaspoon rum-flavored extract

Directions:
Place ice cream, sherbet, fruit salad, concentrate and extract in blender. Blend on medium speed 1-2 min. until smooth and well-blended. Pour into two serving glasses and serve immediately.

Variations:  A tablespoon of rum instead of extract can be used for a more mature flavoring. Also - to "lighten up" the recipe, the vanilla ice cream may also be substituted with frozen yogurt.

Water

Did You Know?
  • 75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated.
  • In 37% of Americans, the thirst mechanism is so weak that it is often mistaken for hunger.
  • Mild dehydration will slow down one's metabolism as much as 3%.
  • One glass of water shuts down midnight hunger pangs for almost 100% of the dieters studied in a U-Washington study.
  • Lack of water is the #1 trigger of daytime fatigue.
  • Preliminary research indicates that 8-10 glasses of water a day could significantly ease back and joint pain for up to 80% of sufferers.
  • A mere 2% drop in body water can trigger fuzzy short-term memory, trouble with basic math, and difficulty focusing on the computer screen or on a printed page.
  • Drinking 5 glasses of water daily decreases the risk of colon cancer by 45%, plus it can slash the risk of breast cancer by 79%, and one is 50% less likely to develop bladder cancer.
  • There is a company harvesting ice bergs and uses the water for an entire line of water, vodka, and beer.  The Newfoundland-based Iceberg Industries claims that the water supply was formed during the glacial age, long before man-made pollution.  They melt down the the broken pieces of the ice bergs and sell the liquid as Borealis beverages in North America, Europe and the Middle East.  Sales are expected to reach nearly a $1.5 million this year.  For more information, check out www.icebergindustries.com
