Medicare
HCFA administers Medicare, the nation's largest health insurance program, which covers approximately 39 million Americans. Medicare provides health insurance to people age 65 and over and those who have permanent kidney failure and certain people with disabilities.

The National Association of Retired Federal Employees
(NARFE) supports those who serve the nation now and have in the past. It is the only association dedicated to protecting the earned retirement benefits of federal employees, retirees and their survivors. NARFE's membership includes over 422,000 federal workers, retirees, spouses and survivors who are united in their goal of guaranteeing the economic security and well-being of active federal employees and those who have retired.

The National Council of Senior Citizens
(NCSC)
After more than 39 years of advocacy on behalf of older men and women, the National Council of Senior Citizens
(NCSC) ceased operations as a membership organization, effective December 31, 2000. Delegates to the National Council’s 22nd Constitutional Convention voted, last June, to endorse the
Alliance for Retired Americans -- the newly created organization being established by the AFL-CIO. The Alliance has agreed to recognize current memberships in the National Council as soon as the new organization is up and running on January 1, 2001.
