Prayer - Minister
Joe Wright
It seems prayer still upsets some people. When Minister Joe Wright was asked to open the new session of the Kansas Senate, everyone was expecting the usual generalities, but this is what they heard:
"Heavenly Father, we come before you today to ask your forgiveness and to seek your direction and guidance. We know Your Word says, "Woe to those who call evil good," but that is exactly what we have done. We have lost our spiritual equilibrium and reversed our values. We confess that.
We have ridiculed the absolute truth of Your Word . . . and called it Pluralism.
We have exploited the poor . . . and called it the lottery.
We have rewarded laziness . . . and called it welfare.
We have killed our unborn . . . and called it choice.
We have shot abortionists . . . and called it justifiable.
We have neglected to discipline our children . . . and called it building self-esteem.
We have abused power . . . and called it politics.
We have coveted our neighbor's possession . . . and called it ambition.
We have polluted the air with profanity and pornography . . . and called it freedom of expression.
We have ridiculed the time-honored values of our forefathers . . .and called it enlightenment.
Search us, Oh, God, and know our hearts today; cleanse us from every sin and set us free. Guide and bless these men and women who have been sent: to direct us to the center of Your will and to openly ask these things in the name of Your Son, the living Savior, Jesus Christ.
Amen!"
The response was immediate. A number of legislators walked out during the prayer in protest. In
six short weeks, Central Christian Church, where Rev. Wright is pastor, logged more than 5,000 phone calls with only 47 of those calls responding negatively. The church is now receiving international quests for copies of this prayer from India, Africa, and Korea. Commentator Paul Harvey aired this prayer on his radio program, "The Rest of the Story," and received a larger response to this program than any other he has ever aired.
With the Lord's help, may this prayer sweep over our nation and wholeheartedly become our desire so that we again can be called "one nation under God."
"If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for everything."
One could also add to this: In a society where anything goes, eventually everything will.
Peace be with you.

A Glass of Milk
One day, a poor boy who was selling goods from door to door to pay his way through school, found he had only one thin dime left, and he was hungry.
He decided he would ask for a meal at the next house. However, he lost his nerve when a lovely young woman opened the door.
Instead of a meal he asked for a drink of water. She thought
he looked hungry so brought him a large glass of milk. He drank it slowly, and then asked, "How much do I owe you?"
"You don't owe me anything," she replied. "Mother has taught us never to accept pay for a kindness." He said..... "Then I thank you from my heart."
As Howard Kelly left that house, he not only felt stronger physically, but his faith in God and man was strong also. He had been ready to give up and quit.
Years later that young woman became critically ill. The local doctors were baffled. They finally sent her to the big city, where they called in specialists to study her rare disease.
Dr. Howard Kelly was called in for the consultation. When he heard the name of the town she came from, a strange light filled his eyes.

Ice Cream Sundae
Last week I took my children to a restaurant. My six-year-old son asked if he
could say grace. As we bowed our heads he said, "God is good. God is great. Thank you for the food, and I would even thank you more if Mom gets us ice
cream for dessert. And Liberty and justice for all! Amen!"
Along with the laughter from the other customers nearby I heard a woman remark, "That's
what's wrong with this country. Kids today don't even know how to pray. Asking God for ice-cream! Why, I never!"
Hearing this, my son burst into tears and asked me, "Did I do it wrong? Is God mad at me?"
As I held him and assured him that he had done a terrific job and God was certainly not mad at
him, an elderly gentleman approached the table. He winked at my son and said, "I happen to know that God thought that was a great prayer."
"Really?" my son asked.
"Cross my heart," the man replied. Then in a theatrical whisper he
added (indicating the woman whose remark had started this whole thing), "Too bad she never asks God for ice cream. A little ice cream is good for the soul
sometimes."
Naturally, I bought my kid's ice cream at the end of the meal. My
son stared at his for a moment and then did something I will remember the rest of my life. He picked up his sundae and without a word, walked over and
placed it in front of the woman. With a big smile he told her, "Here, this is for you. Ice cream is good for the soul sometimes; and my soul is good
already."

Grandma and the Cake
A little boy is telling his Grandma how "everything" is going
wrong -- school, family problems, severe health problems, etc.. Meanwhile, Grandma is baking a cake. She asks her grandson if he would like a snack, which of course he does.
"Here, have some cooking oil."
"Yuck" says the boy.
"How about a couple raw eggs?"
"Gross, Grandma!"
"Would you like some flour then? Or maybe baking soda?"
"Grandma, those are all yucky!"
To which Grandma replies: "Yes, all those things seem bad all by themselves. But when they are put together in the right way, they make a wonderfully delicious cake! God works the same way.
Many times we wonder why he would let us go through such bad and difficult times. But God knows that when He puts these things all in His order, they always work for good!
We just have to trust Him and, eventually, they will all make something wonderful!"
He sends you flowers every spring and a sunrise every morning.
Whenever you want to talk, He'll listen.

Unconditional
Acceptance
I am a mother of three
(ages 14, 12, 3) and have recently completed my college degree. The last class I had to
take was Sociology. The teacher was absolutely inspiring with the qualities that I wish
every human being had been graced with. Her last project of the term was called
"Smile." The class was asked to go out and smile at three people and
document their reactions. I am a very friendly person and always smile at everyone and say
hello anyway, so, I thought, this would be a piece of cake, literally.
Soon after we were assigned the project, my husband, youngest
son, and I went out to McDonald's one crisp March morning. It was just our way of sharing
special playtime with our son. We were standing in line, waiting to be served, when all of
a sudden everyone around us began to back away, and then even my husband did. I did not
move an inch...an overwhelming feeling of panic welled up inside of me as I turned to see
why they had moved.
As I turned around I smelled a horrible "dirty body"
smell, and there, standing behind me were two poor homeless men. As I looked down at the
short gentleman, close to me, he was "smiling". His beautiful sky blue
eyes were full of God's Light as he searched for acceptance. He said, "Good day"
as he counted the few coins he had been clutching.
The second man fumbled with his hands as he stood behind his
friend. I realized the second man was mentally deficient and the blue eyed gentle
man was his salvation. I held my tears as I stood there with them. The young lady at the
counter asked him what they wanted. He said, "Coffee is all, Miss" because that
was all they could afford. (If they wanted to sit in the restaurant and warm up, they had
to buy something. He just wanted to be warm). Then I really felt it - the compulsion was
so great I almost reached out and embraced the little man with the blue eyes.
That is when I noticed all eyes in the restaurant were set on me,
judging my every action. I smiled and asked the young lady behind the counter to give me
two more breakfast meals on a separate tray. I then walked around the corner to the table
that the men had chosen as a resting spot. I put the tray on the table and laid my
hand on the blue eyed gentleman's cold hand. He looked up at me, with tears in his eyes,
and said, "Thank you." I leaned over, began to pat his hand and said, "I
did not do this for you. God is here working through me to give you hope."
I started to cry as I walked away to join my husband and son.
When I sat down my husband smiled at me and said, "That is why God gave you to me,
Honey. To give me hope." We held hands for a moment and at that time we knew that
only because of the Grace that we had been given were we able to give. We are not
churchgoers but we are believers. That day showed me the pure Light of God's sweet love.
I returned to college, on the last evening of class, with this
story in hand. I turned in "my project" and the instructor read it. Then she
looked up at me and said, "Can I share this?" I slowly nodded as she got the
attention of the class. She began to read and that is when I knew that we, as human beings
and being part of God, share this need to heal people and be healed. In my own way I had
touched the people at McDonald's, my husband, son, instructor, and every soul that shared
the classroom on the last night I spent as a college student.
I graduated with one of the biggest lessons I would ever
learn: UNCONDITIONAL ACCEPTANCE.: Much love and compassion is sent to each and
every person who may read this and learn how to LOVE PEOPLE AND USE THINGS - NOT LOVE
THINGS AND USE PEOPLE.

This
is Jim Checking-In Today
A minister passing through his church
in the middle of the day,
Decided to pause by the altar
and see who had come to pray.
Just then the back door opened,
a man came down the aisle,
The minister frowned as he saw
the man hadn't shaved in a while.
His shirt was kinda shabby
and his coat was worn and frayed,
the man knelt, he bowed his head,
Then rose and walked away.
In the days that followed,
each noon time came this chap,
each time he knelt just for a moment,
A lunch pail in his lap.
Well, the minister's suspicions grew,
with robbery a main fear,
He decided to stop the man and ask him,
"What are you doing here?"
The old man said, he worked down the road.
Lunch was half an hour.
Lunchtime was his prayer time,
For finding strength and power.
"I stay only moments, see,
because the factory is so far away;
as I kneel here talking to the Lord,
This is kinda what I say:
"I JUST CAME AGAIN TO TELL YOU, LORD,
HOW HAPPY I'VE BEEN,
SINCE WE FOUND EACH OTHER'S FRIENDSHIP
AND YOU TOOK AWAY MY SIN.
DON'T KNOW MUCH OF HOW TO PRAY, BUT I
THINK ABOUT YOU EVERYDAY.
SO, JESUS, THIS IS JIM CHECKING IN TODAY."
The minister feeling foolish,
told Jim, that was fine.
He told the man he was welcome
To come and pray just anytime.
Time to go, Jim smiled, said
"Thanks." He hurried to the door.
The minister knelt at the altar,
he'd never done it before.
His cold heart melted, warmed with love,
and met with Jesus there.
As the tears flowed, in his heart,
he repeated old Jim's prayer:
"I JUST CAME AGAIN TO TELL YOU, LORD,
HOW HAPPY I'VE BEEN,
SINCE WE FOUND EACH OTHER'S FRIENDSHIP
AND YOU TOOK AWAY MY SIN.
I DON'T KNOW MUCH OF HOW TO PRAY, BUT I
THINK ABOUT YOU EVERYDAY.
SO, JESUS, THIS IS ME CHECKING IN TODAY."
Past noon one day, the minister noticed
that old Jim hadn't come.
As more days passed without Jim,
he began to worry some.
At the factory, he asked about him,
learning he was ill.
The hospital staff was worried,
But he'd given them a thrill.
The week that Jim was with them,
Brought changes in the ward.
His smiles, a joy contagious.
Changed people, were his reward.
The head nurse couldn't understand
why Jim was so glad,
when no flowers, calls or cards came,
Not a visitor he had.
The minister stayed by his bed,
He voiced the nurse's concern:
No friends came to show they cared.
He had nowhere to turn.
Looking surprised, old Jim spoke up
and with a winsome smile;
"the nurse is wrong, she couldn't know,
that in here all the while
everyday at noon He's here,
a dear friend of mine, you see,
He sits right down, takes my hand,
Leans over and says to me:
"I JUST CAME AGAIN TO TELL YOU, JIM,
HOW HAPPY I HAVE BEEN,
SINCE WE FOUND THIS FRIENDSHIP,
AND I TOOK AWAY YOUR SIN.
ALWAYS LOVE TO HEAR YOU PRAY,
I THINK ABOUT YOU EACH DAY,
AND SO JIM, THIS IS JESUS
CHECKING IN TODAY."
