- January:
- New Year's Day: January 1st
- Martin Luther King, Jr.'s Birthday: Observed the third Monday in January.
- Inauguration Day: Observed January 20th every four
years starting in 1937. If January 20th falls on a Sunday,
Inauguration Day will be observed on January 21st.
- February:
- President's Day: Observed
the third Monday in February since 1971; previously celebrated
February 12th for Lincoln's birthday and February
22nd for Washington's
birthday
- May:
- Memorial Day: Observed the last Monday in May since 1971. From 1868 to 1970 Memorial
Day was observed on May 30th. It was sometimes called Decoration Day.
- July:
- September:
- Labor Day: Observed the
first Monday in September
- October:
- Columbus Day: Observed the
second Monday in October since 1971. Traditional observance is
October 12th.
- November:
- Veterans Day: November 11th. During the years of 1971 through 1977, it was
observed on the fourth Monday in October. Veterans Day was
formerly known as Armistice Day.
