Baseball Card Collectibles
Information, links, and
classified ads for collectible Baseball Cards.
MT (Mint): A card in MINT condition is in perfect condition.
This usually means the card is still in the original package (unopened
packs). If a card has been handled, it is most likely rated as NrMT (Near
Mint).
NrMT (Near Mint): The card may have one
"micro defect".
-
A "Micro Defect" would be fuzzy corners, slight
off-centering or loss of gloss, minor printing defects such as lines, spots
or being out of focus.
EX-MT (Excellent-Mint): The card may have two or more "micro
defects". The value is usually about 65 -80% of the Near Mint value.
EX (Excellent): -The card has minor defects and would be valued
at approximately 50% to 65% of the Near Mint value.
-
A "Minor Defect" would be
slight rounding or corner wear, off-centering, a light crease on the back, wax or gum stains on reverse, loss of original gloss, writing
or band or tape marks on the back.
VG (Very Good): Card may have one "major defect"
and would be valued at approximately 30% of the Near Mint value.
G (Good): Card may have two or more "major
defects" and would be valued at approximately 10% of the Near Mint value.
-
A "Major Defect" is
considered to be rounded corners, creases or bends, being off-centered, deceptive
trimming or retouched borders, holes from pins or staples, writing or tape
marks on front, stains, fading or warping.
F (Fair): Card may have one "catastrophic
defect". Hard to say what the value would be. Hopefully you'll
find a buyer.
-
A "Catastrophic Defect":
Uh-oh - this is the worst type of defect and includes badly rounded corners,
miscuts, creases, trimming, tack holes, tears, etc.
-
"Defaced Card": Any
type of pen or tape marks. An autograph on a card means it is
"defaced". To sell the card, you will need to find a buyer
who collects autographed cards. Sometimes you can get a good price for
an autographed card, so it's up to you if you want to "deface"
your card.
