Ants are said to never cross a chalk line. So if you've got
ants, draw a line on the floor with chalk or wherever the ants are
coming in and see for yourself! They won't cross the line.

A Little Bit of Bee Humor...
Did Noah keep his bees in archives?
~~~~~
There was a crowd of bees flying around one day. These bees were most
peculiar. They were powered by gasoline, rather than the allergenic goodies that bees usually eat.
As the crowd flew along, periodically a bee or two would start to sputter; it would fly down to a gas station,
drink up the gas spilled in fueling a car, and then fly up and rejoin the crowd.
One bee began to sputter a little, but flew right by an open gas station. As he passed the second station, he was
coughing badly, but still he flew on.
Finally, as he was on his last fumes, he dove down to a station and gassed up.
When he rejoined the crowd, his neighbor challenged him: "Look, you passed right by an open station when you
started to get low. You passed another station when you were perilously low. And finally, you ran out of gas just
in time to glide into that last station. Are you crazy?"
He replied, "Well, it's like this. The first station was a Gulf station. I really don't like Gulf at all. The
second station was a Texaco station. That's even worse. But the third station was an Esso station. Let me tell
you, Esso is my brand of gasoline.
You know what they say don't you...There's an Esso Bee in every crowd!"
A man goes into a pet shop and tells the owner that he wants
to buy a pet that can do everything. The shop owner suggests a faithful dog.
The man replies, "Come on, a dog?"
The owner says, "How about a cat?"
The man replies, "No way! A cat certainly can't do everything.
I want a pet that can do everything!"
The shop owner thinks for a minute, then says, "I've got it! A centipede!"
The man says, "A centipede? I can't imagine a centipede doing
everything, but okay, I'll try a centipede."
He gets the centipede home and says to the centipede, "Clean the kitchen."
Thirty minutes later, he walks into the kitchen and it's immaculate! All the dishes and silverware have been washed,
dried, and put away; the counter-tops cleaned; the appliances sparkling; the floor waxed. He's absolutely amazed.
He says to the centipede, "Go clean the living room."
Twenty minutes later, he walks into the living room. The carpet
has been vacuumed; the furniture cleaned and dusted; the pillows on the sofa plumped; plants watered. The man thinks to himself,
"This is the most amazing thing I've ever seen. This really is a pet that can do everything!"
Next he says to the centipede, "Run down to the corner and get me
a newspaper."
The centipede walks out the door. 10 minutes later...no centipede.
20 minutes later... no centipede. 30 minutes later...no centipede. By this point the man is wondering what's going on. So he goes to
the front door, opens it... and there's the centipede sitting right outside the door.
The man says, "Hey! I sent you down to the corner store 45 minutes
ago to get me a newspaper. What's the matter?"
The centipede says, "I'm going, I'm going, I'm just putting on my shoes!"
The Summer of 2002 was the time for our 17-year
cicadas or locusts here in the Butler County PA area of western
Pennsylvania. We found them very interesting and got a couple of good
photographs - including one as it was emerging from the larva stage.
Who Has Been Here Longer, the Cockroach or the Dragonfly?
The roach was on this planet about 280 million years ago, and the
dragonfly about 320 million years ago. They are what you really can call old-timers. There are about 3,000 species of roaches in the
world, and they can live almost anywhere except in extremely cold regions. Their diet includes any food that man eats and also clothing
and wallpaper. You probably know they are one of the fastest runners if you ever tried to smack one with a slipper. Generally the roach is
considered a pest, but its ego spells its doom. Roaches like to groom themselves by scraping foreign particles and dust from their bodies
with their legs, then drawing the legs and feelers through the mouth to get rid of the powder. Thus, if we spray the roach's surroundings
with insect powder, we will soon find the bug on his back, heading for his favorite crevice in the sky.
On the other hand, the dragonfly is our friend, because flies and
mosquitoes are to it what apple pie and ice cream are to us. And like us, the dragonfly never tires of its delicacy. Its bulging eyes can spot
an insect 60 feet away, and it can catch the insect with a swoop of 60 miles an hour. When he arranges his six spiny legs in flight in
the shape of a woven basket to catch an insect, the object of his gustatory desire doesn't have a chance. It is even devoured while in
flight.
If you could count the number of times a
cricket chirps in one minute, divide by 2, add 9 and divide by 2 again, you would have the
correct temperature in Celcius degrees.
On the other hand you can always look at a thermometer.
I stopped at a friends house the other day and found him
stalking around with a flyswatter.
When I asked if he had gotten any flies, he answered, "Yeah, 3 males and 2 females."
Curious, I inquired as to how he could tell the difference.
He answered, "3 were on a beer can and 2 were on the phone."
Lady Bugs are actually called "Asian Lady
Beetles."
They are native of eastern Asia.
The Lady Bug (Beetle) was introduced to the
United States by the U. S. Department of Agriculture as a biological control
agent. The tree-dwelling insect can live up to three years. They are
a predator of aphids and other pests. They do not bite, sting, carry human
disease or feed on wood, clothing or food. They can become a nuisance to
homeowners in the Fall when they come inside seeking warmth. Because they
are so beneficial, they should be released back outside and not killed.
