Funny State Slogans (Rejected
State Mottos)
South Carolina: Just south of North Carolina
~~~~~
Two boll weevils grew up in South Carolina. One went to Hollywood and became a famous actor. The other stayed behind in the cotton fields and never amounted to much. The second one, naturally, became known as the lesser of two weevils.
This picture was taken in Myrtle Beach SC about 1 hour from where I
live. It originally started out as a water spout, which is a tornado over water.
Normally when they hit land they fall apart but this one didn't. There was quite a bit of damage done to downtown Myrtle Beach but there were no deaths, but several injuries.
A Little Bit of Tornado Humor...
Farmer Brown: "Did you lose
much in that last tornado?"
Farmer Jones: "Lost the
henhouse and all the chickens. But that's OK 'cause I ended up
with three new cows and somebody's pick-up truck."
"Carolina"
Written by Henry Timrod
Composed by Anne Custis Burgess
Hold up the glories of thy dead;
Say how thy elder children bled,
And point to Eutaw's battle-bed.
Carolina! Carolina!
Throw thy bold banner to the breeze!
Front with thy ranks the threatening seas
Like thine own proud armorial trees,
Carolina! Carolina!
Thy skirts indeed the foe may part,
Thy robe be pierced with sword and dart,
They shall not touch thy noble heart,
Carolina! Carolina!
Girt with such wills to do and bear,
Assured in right, and mailed in prayer,
Thou wilt not bow thee to despair,
Carolina! Carolina!
