- There are a lot of lighthouses
in Maine. At one time there were 71, but there may only be about 63
now. We've seen conflicting counts - anyone know for sure?
- Maine
has approximately 3,500 miles of coastline - about the same, if not a little
more, than California.
- The most eastern point of the
United States is at Quoddy Head Light in Maine.
- Inventions - The following items were all
invented in Maine:

- Earmuffs
- Motor ice boat (a forerunner of the snowmobile)
- Power drill
- Snow plow
- Thermostat
- Toothpick
- One of the first boy scout
troops was started in Maine. Scout Troop #1 of Brewer Maine was
founded in 1909.
- The Appalachian Trail starts in northern
Georgia and continues through South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee,
Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Connecticut,
Massachusetts, Vermont and ends in Maine at Mt. Katahdin, Baxter Peak,
Baxter State Park.
