- Arbor Day for Florida - third Friday in January
- "The United States officially observes National Arbor Day on the last Friday in April.
However, The Florida Legislature in 1945 designated the third Friday in January as the State Arbor
Day, because that is the time of year when the climate is optimal for planting trees in Florida."

Humor
Please...No Offense Intended...Just Sharing Some Smiles
|
|
You know you are in FLORIDA during the summertime when:
|
- The best parking place is determined by shade instead of distance.
- Hot water now comes out of both taps.
- You can make sun tea instantly.
- You learn that a seat belt buckle makes a pretty good branding iron.
- The temperature drops below 95 and you feel a little chilly.
- You discover that in July it only takes 2 fingers to steer your car.
- You discover that you can get sunburned through your car window.
- You actually burn your hand opening the car door.
- You break into a sweat the instant you step outside at 7:30 a.m.
- Your biggest bicycle wreck fear is, "What if I get knocked out and end up lying on the pavement and cook to death?"
- You realize that asphalt has a liquid state.
- The birds have to use pot holders to pull worms out of the ground.
- The potatoes cook underground, so all you have to do is pull one out and add butter, salt, and pepper.
- Farmers are feeding their chickens crushed ice to keep them from laying hard-boiled eggs.
- The cows are giving evaporated milk.
- The trees are whistling for the dogs.

To close each day's activities in summer and on holidays in the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World at Lake Buena Vista, Fla., a huge fireworks display lights up the sky.
One night I noticed a small boy about three years old perched on his father's shoulder. The child sat mesmerized, aware only of what was exploding in the heavens. When the fireworks were over, the little boy looked up into the sky again and said, "Thank you, God."

I won the Florida lottery!
I'm now a multi-millionaire! Can you believe it?! I'm bouncing off the walls here!
You see, my ticket doesn't have the exact winning numbers on it, but I meant to pick those winning numbers.
The ticket was very confusing when I was filling it out and so I ended up with the wrong numbers on my card.
But since I really meant to pick those other numbers, they're going to give me the money anyway!
They really shouldn't make those darn cards so hard to fill out! Even though I was confused, I didn't ask for help because no one would have helped me anyway. I know the
Florida State Lottery will give me the money. If they don't I'll just sue them!

The Swanee River
(Old Folks at Home)
Written by Stephen C. Foster in 1851
Way down upon the Swanee River,
Far, far away.
That's where my heart is turning ever.
That's where the old folks stay.
All up and down the whole creation,
Sadly I roam,
Still longing for the old plantation,
And for the old folks at home.
All the world is sad and dreary,
Everywhere I roam,
Oh! Lordy, how my heart grows weary,
Far from the old folks at home.
All 'round the little farm I wandered
When I was young,
Then many happy days I squandered,
Many a song I sung.
When I was playing with my brother
Happy was I.
Oh! take me to my kind old mother,
There let me live and die.
All the world is sad and dreary,
Everywhere I roam,
Oh! Lordy, how my heart grows weary,
Far from the old folks at home.
One little hut among the bushes,
One that I love,
Still sadly to my mem'ry rushes,
No matter where I rove.
When will I see the bees a-humming'
All around the comb?
When will I hear the banjo strummin'
Down in my good old home?
All the world is sad and dreary,
Everywhere I roam,
Oh, Lordy, how my heart grows weary,
Far from the old folks at home.
Former Florida State Song
Before "Old Folks at Home", there was another state song,
Florida, My Florida:
"Florida, My Florida"
Written by Rev. Dr. C. V. Waugh in 1894
Land of my birth, bright sun-kissed land,
Florida, my Florida.
Laded by the Gulf and Ocean grand,
Florida, my Florida.
Of all the States in East or West,
Unto my heart thou art the best
Here may I live, here may I rest
Florida, my Florida.
The golden fruit the world outshines
Florida, my Florida,
Thy gardens and thy phosphate mines,
Florida, my Florida.
In country, town, or hills and dells,
Florida, my Florida,
The rhythmic chimes of the school bells
Florida, my Florida.
Will call thy children day by day
To learn to walk the patriot's way
Firmly to stand for thee for aye
Florida, my Florida.
Yield their rich store of good supply,
To still the voice of hunger's cry—
For thee we'll live, for thee we'll die
Florida, my Florida.
